If you’re reading this, and you’re a Mac user, here’s some applications that are making my life easier. I’ll go from first to last aquired:

DragThing

– If you want a versatile alternative to the Apple’s Dock, look no further! I use this app to call up invisible docks for folders, apps, files… all visible with the touch of definable hot-keys. Normally, the default option for these draggable docks is visible, and you can set them up to be windowed, drawers (hidden away on the sides of the screen), or just like I described my setup. One powerful, infinitely customizable app! Yes it’s shareware with a $29 price tag, but once you demo it, you may agree it’s worth much more.

Symphonic

– Not really an app, but a widget, this is one handy little companion for iTunes! I love listening to music while surfing the net or doing other computer work, and I keep it nearby on screen where I can easily click on it. You can type in any song, or part of a song… heck, I’ve even typed in a partial word of a song I was thinking of, and it calls iTunes to play that song, with uncanny accuracy. I’ve got a 1,700 song library, so that’s no small task! Oh, and it’s free!!

Quicksilver

– I just tried it out today, and it’s already in my “Launch at startup” list. This is a keyboard-based launcher that makes mousing around seem too slow. Indeed, once I got the hang of launching and controlling applications with it, soley thru extremely simple keyboard commands, I wanted to do away with the mouse altogether. It’s that good! I have a feeling it’s only free because the creators have had it in perpetual beta status.

Give these little jewels a test drive. You won’t be disappointed!

  2. Has the accuracy of Symphonic gotten any better? I remember the first releases you would have to type most of times the exact title of the track you want it else it wouldn’t find it.

If it has gotten better, I will check it out again..

  4. Heck yes, it’s gotten better! I must have gotten one of the later versions. I’ll have to remind myself to download the latest version, if need be.
