Stupid Lawsuits
Apple sued over iPod hearing risks – Engadget
This is just too sad. If you read my “Thoughts and Things” post from a couple of weeks ago, I was ranting about stupid lawsuits. In this great country of ours, some people think that their own stupidity should be compensated for.
Mp3 players have been around long before the iPod. They could play just as loud, depending on file quality/source, as the iPod. Yet none of those companies had a lawsuit slapped on them. Apple’s iPod has more than 75% of the market share, so go figure that some putz wants to get as much money as he can.
I have an iPod. The booklet (yes, it really does come with simple instructions!) clearly states that listening to music at loud volumes may cause hearing loss. This case has no leg to stand on, IMHO.
I can just see the judge looking at the plaintiff: “Sir, you do realize that said music player has a volume control, right? Then sir, in the future, please have the common sense to use it. Case dismissed, court adjourned!” Judge mutters under breath, “Idiot!”
I really hope it doesn’t go any other way or any further!
