Archive for December, 2005

This game just came out, and it’s getting rave reviews from every gaming community. I was playing the demo for this game last night, and I was very impressed. The character animation is smooth, not to mention very cute too, and the effects are great. All the sounds and music are lifted directly from the movies. You get to play as Star Wars Lego characters and you get to play the storyline from Episodes 1, 2 and 3. They made the cutscenes resemble scenes from the movie but with some comic, and again cute, touches. All in all a kid’s game that adults can get into, too. I guess I’m just a big kid (my wife would agree; aren’t all men?).

Definitely a must-have for me soon! (hint-hint for Christmas???)

Cheers!

Are there any birthdays in December, January or Feburary that I need to be aware of? I’m certain that there must be, but I only know of one so far. Refer to my Upcoming Events list for what I do know. Let me know, ok? Thanks!

I just saw this post on iPodDailyNews. Wow. First an operating system and all supporting technologies, then a game system… now a possible PMP? Of course, it’s just a rumour. Shouldn’t they have their hands full trying to put the finishing touches on their long-overdue Microsoft Vista OS? (interesting un-biased July 2005 article from eweek.com here)

Yes, I’m a Mac user, but I do have a great respect for Microsoft. Everyone in the Apple fan community slams Windows XP for security holes and the patches needed to install every week (it seems), but I see a company that is doing all it can to fix problems stemming from virus creators who have nothing better to do with their free time. My dad has been using Windows forever, and I have yet to hear from him any major problems with it. Then again, he’s a certified MS Tech (several times over!), and he uses security measures that I’m sure most people don’t know how (or dont take the time) to implement. Even though Apple has it’s own securities built-in on the 10.4 Tiger OS (install permissions, firewalls, UNIX securities, no root enabling), if it was the dominant OS it would be facing the same attacks.

Anyway, back to the rumour mill. Someone put up a link to an artist’s conception of what the Microsoft Digital Music Player might look like. I almost fell over laughing! I especially liked the built-in cooling fan and the ctrl-alt-del buttons. Click here to see it, and cheers!

Well, I never got a response to my email to the moderator who deleted my entry on Wikipedia. I did more reading up on submission criteria for entries on music. It seems that Theocracy, the band I did the write-up on, didn’t fit their criteria on band/artist submissions. Two of the things that the band didn’t have going for them: 1) the artist needs to have had at least two full length albums released by a record label and/or 2) needs to have been reviewed by a “major publication”. They only have one album out (they’re working on their second release now) and they were only reviewed by review sites and minor publications. Bummer, huh? They’ll fit the criteria in time…

What really burns me up about Wikipedia, besides all the reading up to do on various submission criteria (besides music entries, there is a LOT of research one has to do before deciding their entry is “worthy”), is the fact that I honestly sent a polite, well-thought out email to this moderator/editor and he/she never bothered to respond with even a curt reply. I’ll still use Wikipedia for some research, but this person just gave the encyclopedia site a bad name, in my opinion.

This is yet another observation that the indians need to be allowed to define the world a little more, and the chiefs need to back off on the control (or less chiefs are needed). Cheers!

Forget the links in my last post, and I’ll delete them soon. It seems a moderator/editor on Wikipedia saw fit that my article on Theocracy (the band) should be deleted! I’m rather ticked about that, and I wrote a polite yet pleading note to them asking just why they did that? Here’s hoping that I get a sane answer one way or the other…
